Imphal, March 18 2020:
A 40 year old senior resident surgeon of JNIMS has been remanded to police custody for 10 days (till March 27) in connection with the alleged blackmailing and sexual assault of a married woman.
During the hearing today, the accused, identified as Dr Pukhrambam Kiran s/o Dr P Brajamani of Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak, was produced before Judicial magistrate Imphal West II today, along with a prayer for 10 days police remand.
The IO of the case, through the APP, narrated that the accused was arrested at around 4 pm yesterday, by a team of Nambol police based on a complaint lodged by the victim.
The victim had claimed that in 2010, she got an internship course for General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) at JNIMS for a period of six months and during that period, she met the surgeon and became acquainted with him, and their relationship turned into a love affair.
She alleged that in September of 2010, Dr Kiran took her to a roadside restaurant located along Tiddim road and raped her.
She also claimed that the accused took photographs of her nude body with his mobile phone.
After the incident, Dr Kiran convinced her that he would definitely marry her and whenever they went for any outings, he used to take obscene photographs of her body.
She added that whenever she protested, Dr Kiran threatened her that he would upload the photographs on social media sites.
The victim further alleged that the surgeon used to threaten her by sending her nude pictures through WhatsApp and demanded her to comply with whatever he asked her to do.
In the complaint, the victim narrated that in February of 2011, the surgeon married another girl but he still used to call her frequently apart from threatening her that he would prevent her from getting married with someone and that she would face dire consequences if she failed to obey his commands.
The victim further continued that she got married in February last year but one day, an envelope containing some nude photos of her along with a micro SD card, was handed over to her mother by two unknown ladies.
At the same time, some more nude photographs of her were also delivered to the house of a local Meira Paibi group leader.
She alleged that the accused even made threats to her elder brother masquerading as a member of an insurgent group demanding him to come to Moreh along with her in connection with the issue.
The victim informed that in July last year, her husband had even filed a complaint to Porompat PS regarding the problem but it was settled with an agreement between Dr Kiran and her husband.
As per the complainant, on February 9 this year, Dr Kiran hurled some nude pictures of her at the gate of her parental home and the act was witnessed by her mother, apart from being recorded by a CCTV camera which was installed nearby.
The IO said that after registering a case, the senior resident surgeon was arrested and during preliminary interrogation, he admitted to all other charges levelled against him, except the claim that he hurled nude photographs of the victim at the victim's maternal home.
Stressing on the need for thorough interrogation of the accused, the IO prayed for 10 days police custody remand, which the Court granted.
As such, Dr Kiran was remanded till March 27 for further investigation of the case.
