NCST reminds Stat Govt on COPTAM's petition

The National Commission for Schedule Tribes, government of India has reminded once again to the government of Manipur to reply to the former on the complaints lodged by general secretary of Committee on Protection of Tribal Areas, Manipur (COPTAM) Thangkam Lupheng.
The COPTAM had lodged complaints to the National Commission relating to the protection of the Manipur tribal and their ancestral lands.
The National Commmission for Schedule Tribes had reportedly asked the Manipur government to give its version on the matter but till date the latter has not complied.
The last reminder of the Commission to the state government was dispatched on October 22 to be replied within 15 days.
"National Commission for Schedule Tribes is a Constitutional body set up under Article 338A of the Constitution is, inter-alia, entrusted with duties to inquire into specific complaints with respect to the deprivation of rights and safeguards of Schedule Tribes and has been given powers of civil court to deal with the complaints.
You are therefore, expected to send the requisite information within the stipulated time," the National Commission for Schedule Tribes said in the letter addressed to the chief secretary of Manipur.
