Manipuri culture promoting National identity: Joykumar

Manipuri culture with its uniqueness has been contributing a lot in promoting National identity.
This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh while addressing the inaugural session of a one-day seminar on "Manipuri Culture: Issues Relating to National Identity" at the Court Hall of Manipur University today.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that Manipur has its uniqueness of having written history, literature and culture.
He said that Manipuri culture has been dynamic in its own course enabling to absorb good values from time to time.
It has a lot of relevance with the Indian culture which has always been a dynamic one, he added.
He further stated that Manipuri classical dance has its uniqueness and it has been a treasure in Indian culture also.
He said that culture may be different for societies but it is the philosophy through which society deals with its surroundings.
Therefore, we have to think, analyse and re-look into the importance of our culture as this will enable us to follow the right path that our ancestors made for us, he added.
Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Professor Adya Prasad Pandey said that Manipuri culture is very different and it cannot be compared with any culture in the world.
It has rich components of love and care even to our nature.
In Indian context also, there may be a lot differences in culture, but each culture has been contributing in the promotion of our National identity which means unity in diversity, he said.
On the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Jopykumar released two books namely "Perspective of Manipuri Culture" edited by Professor Shyamkishore Singh and Professor Bhagat Oinam of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and 'Identity and Crisis of Identity' written by Professor Soyam Lokendrajit.
Three panel speakers including Dr LokendroArambam, Professor (retd) Ch Budhi Singh and Professor (retd) N Tombi Singh deliberated on the topic of the seminar.
Senior faculty members, research scholars and students participated in the seminar which was organised by Manipur University Teachers' Association (MUTA) .
