The Heikapokpi Mission Blind School has been functioning without any assistance from the State government, stated Head Master K Pareng Kom during an inspection visit made by All Tribal Disabled Union Manipur (ATDUM) today.
The Head Master further said that the school has a total strength of 116 students from classes Nursery to Class VIII with nine teachers and three non-teaching staffs.
The School was established in 1998 and got recognition in 2005 .
The school authorities have been seeking donations from individuals, social organizations and Assam Rifles in order to run the School.
The estimated monthly cost of education for a student is about Rs.1200 and teachers are being paid Rs.3000 as remuneration, Pareng Kom noted.
He lamented that the School is functioning without any assistance from the State government despite directives from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for providing necessary assistance.
President of ATDUM Momo Tangtang alleged that the state government is discriminatory in the implementation of various welfare schemes for the disabled people.
He further demanded the authorities concerned to take up appropriate action to bring relief to the woes of disabled people.
