One day State level workshop organised

Manipur Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC), under the aegis of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Government of lndia, organised a one day State level workshop on 'Empowering Panchayati Raj Institution specially', today at State Guest House, Sanjenthong.
Various civil service officials and district level officers took part in the workshop.
Speaking at the event, MRS AC Director Dr N Ranvir said that under the programme, steps would be taken improve the capacity building of the elected representatives of 50 Gram Panchayats in Imphal East district first and then gradually expand to other districts of the State as well.
He pointed out that under the programme, space based inpiuts can be used to devise development plans for remote villages and areas.
Dr Ranvir further said that the programme, aside from improving the capacity building of Panchayati Raj representatives, would also enable monitoring the progress of* developmental works at the grass root level with the help of asset mapping.
The first phase aims to complete the capacity building programmes of 50 Gram Panchayats of Imphal East before September and then the programme will branch out to other districts.
The programme aims to cover 23,619 Gram Panchayats of 59 districts across the country and under the programme, the Panchayati Raj Institutes will also perform asset mapping through a mobile application called Bhuvan Panchayat, he added.
North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) scientist Victor Saikhom spoke on the various applications and benefits of remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS) to the Government and the public.
