'Yet to submit proposals on climate change'

Even though State Action Plan on climate change was constituted in 2013, Manipur is yet to avail various related projects as 21 Departments are yet to submit relevant proposals.
The schemes and projects are to be executed by these 21 Departments in 8 selected sectors as the main focus areas, said an official source.
Departments responsible for implementing schemes and projects under State Action Plan on climate change are PHED, Power, Works , Minor Irrigation, MAHUD, Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary, Fisheries, Medical, .
Rural Development, Industries, Transport, Planning, Tourism, LDA, Forest and MDS.
Though the projects will be implemented with assistance from the Centre and other countries, proposals are to be drafted by the State Departments.
The official said that the Directorate of Environment in collaboration with some Departments is setting up a carbon positive eco-model village at Phayeng and extensive tree plantaion drive is underway.
Switzerland Development Corporation and Department of Science and Technology, Government of India will be providing training on climate change to high ranking officials of the State Departments from May 29 onwards.
