Man held for sodomy, taken into custody

A man who was arrested for sodomizing a 7-year-old boy has been taken into five days police custody after being produced before the Court of Special Judge, Imphal West today.
The accused has been identified as Leiphrakpam Ranjan (20) s/o (L) Sura of Uripok Huidrom Leikai.
He was produced before the Court with regard to FIR number 163 (5) 2017 Imphal police station registered against him under Section 6 of POCSO Act.
In his submission, Investigation Officer of the case stated that the victim's father filed a report to OC Imphal police station on May 24 alleging that his son was found sodomised by some unknown persons at Uripok Ahanthem Leikai after which his son was admitted to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
He submitted that on receipt of reliable information, Ranjan was arrested from Maharani bridge yesterday at around 8.30 pm and on interrogation the accused admitted the charge levelled against him.
However, thorough interrogation is highly required in order to extract more facts of the case and establish his solid involvement in the crime, the 10 stated.
He also stated that the accused is required to be medically examined at Forensic Department, RIMS and prayed before the Court for five days police custody remand for the accused.
The Court explained to the accused the reasons for his arrest and asked him whether he wants to say anything in his defense.
Finding sufficient ground for allowing the prayer of the IO of the case as the charge levelled against the accused is under POCSO Act, the Court remanded the accused to five days police custody till May 30 .
The Court also directed the IO to produce the accused on May 30 .
