Women empowerment stressed on Teej

"Empowering women and strengthening women's participation in decision making and leadership at both national and local level is at the heart of sustainable socio-economic development", MSCP MLA from 50-Kangpokpi A/C Nemcha Kipgen stated on the occasion of Teej festival at Kalapahar, Sadar Hills yesterday.
Teej is a traditional fasting festival celebrated by Nepali women for the long life of their husbands as well as long and firm relationship between them till death part them.
It is observed for the marital happiness, well-being of spouse and children besides purification of one's own body and soul.
Teej festival celebration at Kalapahar was organized by Mahila Mandal Kalapahar(Women Society Kalapahar) where MLA Nemcha Kipgen graced as Chief Guest while Dilip Katwal, special contractor; RB.Chapagain, President Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union; Devi Prasad Upriti, President Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh Manipur Branch; Paominlen Kipgen, MDC Kalapahar DCC; Ribu Raj Bhujel, Pradhan Kalapahar and Gokul Pokhrel, Ex-Pradhan Toribari attended as Guests of Honour.
Two tourists from Nepal namely Narayan Bhattarai and Navaraj Bhattarai were also present on the occasion attended by thousand of Nepali women; young and old from different places, all dressed up in red colour clothes considered auspicious for women observing Teej.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Nemcha Kipgen emphasized on the need for women empowerment and said that educational attainment and economic participation are the key constituents in ensuring empowerment of women.
Women leaders have vital role to play in developing the innovative approaches and solution to the new development challenges that our society will be facing, she added.
She further said that former India's President Pratibha Devi Singh Patel, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, AICC President Sonia Gandhi, etc have proved that women are more perfectionists in the power to create, nurture and transform the society.
"God has gifted women with compassion, tender-heartedness, caring nature, concern for others.
This are very positive signs which imply that women can be a leader", noted Nemcha.
