Kakching, August 02 2012:
Even though the truant monsoon rain has brought some relief to other parts of the state, agricultural tracts in Chandel district continue to remain dry with crop-plants unable to survive.
Lamenting over the situation and the failure of the government to pay necessary attention, President of Kuki People's Forum J Baite today drew the immediate attention of the concerned department so as to avoid famine in the district.
Addressing a press meet at K Phailen village yesterday, J Baite pointed out that although Ministerial teams have inspected drought hit areas in the valley and provided water pumps and fertilizers at subsidised rates to the farmers, the government has turned a blind eye to the situation prevailing in Chandel district, thus leaving the farmers of the district to their own fate.
He appealed to government and concerned department for providing necessary grants to the farmers to bail them out from their present condition.
The President also pointed out that staffs of PHCs in Ngangoulen, Khengyoi, Tengnoupal, Singjang, Sehlon and Khangbarol are found absent from their duties frequently, thereby causing lot of inconveniences to the people.
Expressing serious concern on the issue, he also appealed to the Chief Medical Officer, Chandel district to look into the matter at the earliest.
