Imphal, June 02 2020:
While appreciating the efforts of the State Govt in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and the massive repatriation exercise of State natives stranded across the country, an emergency joint meeting of tribal student bodies (ATSUM, KSO and ANSAM) discussed the pandemic situation in the hill districts and put forth some points for immediate intervention.
With the alarming increase in the number of positive cases with the return of Manipuri natives, the tribal student bodies urged the Govt to make provisions for isolation wards in all the district hospitals where symptomatic or highly suspected persons can be cared and also to immediately install COVID testing laboratories at all the hill district headquarters for facilitating faster and extensive testing of people quarantined in the centres.
The student bodies also appreciate the appeal of Edn Minister Th Radhesyam to private school authorities for exemption of tuition fees during lockdown period.
However, the student bodies urged the Govt to provide assistance to the private schools so that they can pay the teachers' salary.
