Organisations appeal for peaceful coexistence and harmony

Imphal, September 28 2020:
The Khurmi Naga Peoples' Organization (KNPO) and its frontal organizations namely Naga Students' Union Chandel, Naga Women Union, Chandel, Chandel District Christian Forum expressed its concern at the spontaneous violence occurred on September 26, 2020, between 'blood brother villages' of Aimol Chingnunghut and Aimol Khunjai.
A press release issued by KNPO said that the Civil Society Organizations of Khurmi at large are unhappy at the violence which resulted in the death of one pastor and injuring many.
Sharing the grief of the bereaved family, KNPO appealed to the villagers concerned to prevail the sense of brotherhood and forgiveness of Christian faith at this moment.
The KNPO along with the Naga tribe leaders of Khurmi and the frontal organisations had also visited both the villages on September 27, 2020, and urged leaders of both the villages to maintain peace.
It also appreciated the initiatives of the State Government, Police departments and other organizations within and outside the district for showing concerns and solidarity to stop the violence.
We sincerely feel that the two brother villages will reciprocate for dialogue to defuse any tense situation in future for the well-being of the public, the KNPO added.
The All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), the apex Christian Organisation in the State also expressed concern about the prevailing situation between the two villages and begged for peaceful coexistence and harmonious living among themselves.
The apex Christian Organisation also urged both the villages to accept and love one another for peaceful coexistence.
AMCO also expressed solidarity to the bereaved family.
The All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordinating Committee; the United NGOs Mission-Manipur and the National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) also appealed for maintaining peaceful coexistence and harmony among the denizens of Aimol Chingnunghut and Aimol Khunjai under Tengnoupal district.
Meanwhile, United Peoples' Front, Manipur (UPF) has also termed the incident very unfortunate.
UPF said these kind of issues arises due to the Govt's failure to conduct proper survey of the lands.
UPF urged the Govt to look into the matter seriously to avoid further confrontations.
Also appealed the villagers to remain calm and sought out the issues amicably.
