LEDO calls for development of eco-tourism

Loktak Ecotourism Development Organisation (SEDO), Thanga Ngaram has opened one "Maipakchao family's home stay" to attract tourists and help in the survival and sustainability of Thanga villagers in Bishnupur District, said General Secretary of the organisation Akhom Birendra on Tuesday.
On the setting up of the home-stay, Akhom Birendra said that 90% of the phumdees (floating bio-mass) on Loktak Lake has already been removed by the Government impacting on the local economy of Thanga villagers.
Opening of such home stays and attracting tourists will help the villagers in earning additional income apart from fishing.
LEDO's objective is to bring economic development to Thanga villagers by opening such home stays.
Villagers have always thought of earning income from fishing to survive but LEDO has tried to change the villager's concept by promoting tourism so that people can start earning from eco-tourism sector, added Birendra.
