Civil bodies greet people of Manipur on Ningol Chakouba

Several organizations of the state have extended their greetings on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba which is being celebrated across the state on October 25 .
In a message to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba, the United Committee Manipur (UCM) has termed the occasion as an opportunity to maintain bonds of love among various communities residing in Manipur.
The celebration had begun way back during the time of Pakhangba when queen Laisana hosted feast for her brother Poireiton.
However, during the time of Chandrakiti Majaraj, the tradition of hosting feast by the brothers for their sisters started.
Thus the present Ningol Chakouba is one of the earliest festivals descended from times immemorial.
The UCM called upon the people to shun the unwanted gambling activities like Lagao Khaoba, Tambola and Lottery, and also to avoid competitions on the quantity and quality of gifts.
Chanura Lamchinglel Kangleipak (CLK), in a statement signed by its president Th.Tampakleima Chanu, also greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Ningol Chakouba.

While appealing to the people to avoid competitions on presentations and gifts on Ningol Chakouba, the CLK statement has urged the inhabitants of Manipur not to indulge in excessive expenditure on this occasion.
It has also denounced the practice of 'Lagao Khaoba' which even women have started to join.
Conveying its message to the people of Manipur, the Ethno Heritage Council (HERICON) wished that the Ningol Chakouba festival would bring an end to the crimes and violence perpetrated to the women folk of the state.
The HERICON has greeted the people and hoped to bring a more cordial bond of love among the people.
Joining the various organizations in greeting the people on the Ningol Chakouba festival, the Pangal Students' Organisation Manipur, All Manipur Muslims (Meitei-Pangal) Welfare Association and United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation) have called for an end to the crimes and violence against the women with the coming of this festival.
The organizations have also reiterated the importance of this meaningful event in the society.
The Indigenous Peoples' Association of Kangleipak (IPAK), while greeting the people on Ningol Chakouba, appreciated the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) for lifting the economic blockade in view of the upcoming Ningol Chakouba and Chavang Kut festivals .
In a statement, the IPAK has also extended support to the rightful demands of the students' body.
Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) Jiribam has also joined the wagon of numerous organizations in greeting the people of Manipur on this auspicious day.
In a statement, the JDO said it will organize a Ningol Chakouba programme on October 25, for which the organization appealed to the women of various communities in Jiribam to take part in the programme.
The National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO), while giving message to the people of Manipur, stated that it will organize the Ningol Chakouba programme at Heirok Devi Mandip Leikai in collaboration with Devine Nongpok Ningthou Youth Club, Apunba Nupi Angang semgat Lup Heirok.
Greeting the women of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Ningol Chakouba, the All Manipur Nupi Marup has appealed to the businessmen not to sell commodities at unreasonable prices taking advantage of the festival.
The organization has wished that 'with the coming of Ningol Chakouba, let us make a corruption free and crime free Manipur' .
