3 jail staff suspended

Following massive outcry against hand-cuffing arrested Manipur University teachers (now released) while taking them to JNIMS for medical attention on October 11, three jail staff have been placed under suspension.
According to an order issued by ADG (Prisons) P Doungel on October 16, Churachandpur District Jail Chief Head Warder Laljason Gangte, Manipur Central Jail, Imphal Warder L Robindro and Manipur Central Jail, Imphal Warder Sailem Wungkhai have been placed under suspension with immediate effect.
All three of them are currently attached to Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa.
During the period of suspension, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa should be the headquarters for all three of them and they shall not leave their headquarters without obtaining prior permission of the Superintendent, Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, said the order.
Notably, teachers handcuffed while taking them hospital were among the many teachers and students arrested after a massive raid carried out by police inside MU campus in the intervening night of September 20 and 21 based on an FIR lodged by Prof K Yugindro who served as a VC in-charge for a brief period.
