Ministerial team inspects development works in Tamenglong

With an aim to bring equal development both in hill and plain areas of the state, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh; Parliamentary Secretary, YAS and Tourism, M Prithiviraj Singh; Tamei Assembly Constituency's MLA Z Kikhonbou Newmai; Tamenglong A/C's MLA Janghemlung Panmei and officials of PWD visited different parts of Tamenglong and Sadar Hills to inspect the development works being taken up in these places.
On the first day of the 3-day-long tour from February 12 to 14, the Ministerial team inspected the Rs 1.5 crore Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) Road project and instructed engineers and contractors to ensuring completion of the work before monsoon.
Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the inspection, Dr Ratankumar informed that the state government has received approval for construction of the 91km long Tamenglong-Tamei road and Tamei-Kuilong road under NEC.

Moreover, the State Government has entrusted BRO to upgrade the Tamenglong - Khongsang road to the status of a national highway.
Inspecting the development work of Katang Bridge at Tamei A/C's Katang village, Dr Ratankumar assured the villagers that construction of Manipur's longest bailey bridge of 400 meter would be complete by April and a rest house would in constructed in the area to facilitate cross-State tourism in consultation with the local MLA.
The construction of the bridge at Katang bordering Nagaland, which is the only connection between Nagaland and Dikuram village was initially started in 2006 under NEC.
However, it remained ceased midway for the last 6 years following dispute among the contractors.
The construction work has been resumed with an additional amount of more than Rs 50 lakh this year.
During the tour Ratankumar inaugurated Barak Bridge at Namtiram under Tamenglong A/C and inspected Mini Secretariat at Tamenglong district head quarters.
However, the villagers disclosed that one of the retaining walls of the bridge has already broken and urged to reconstruct it so as to prevent from being washed out by water during rainy season.
Prithviraj, who attended the inaugural function of Barak Bridge at Namtiram Part 1, pointed out that Tamenglong district has many natural tourist spots which could be developed.
He assured that the area along Barak River would be developed as a tourist destination.
