CCpur has largest bamboo plantation area

With a sprawling 1337.16 Sq Km area under bamboo plantation, Churachandpur has become the district with largest area of bamboo plantation in the State.
According to a report from the State Forest Department, the State has a total area of 3691.77 Sq Km of bamboo plantation out of which 130 Sq Km is in Senapati district, 125 Sq Km in Ukhrul, 1337.16 Sq Km in Churachandpur, 1153.24 Sq Km in Tamenglong, 474.38 Sq Km in Jiribam Sub-division of Imphal East, 442 Sq Km in Tengnoupal, 10 Sq Km in Thoubal, 8 Sq Km in Bishnupur and 7 Sq Km in Imphal East and Imphal West.
The State has about 53 varieties of bamboo plant which include Mobiwa, Utang, Khokwa, Saneibi and Moirangwa.
Jiribam and Lilong Khunou are rich in Moirangwa while Khokwa variety is abundantly grown at Bishnupur, Ngariyan and Kasom.
Mobiwa is grown at Lokchao, Chandel and Kangla Village while Tenwa is found at Mao, Koubru and Ukhrul.
