Imphal, October 06 2011:
The age-old traditional and religious ritual of Kwak Tanba from which one can observe forthcoming omens was performed today in Imphal by the Sana Konung with the titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba along with his Royal Council members even as the Pandit Loishang performed the ritual on their own at Ramjee Junior High School campus, Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal with RK Gopalsana from Keishampat Longjam Leirak as Senapati, despite the warnings from Utra Sanglen not to perform the ritual.
Before the actual ritual was performed, King Leishemba Sanajaoba along with members of the Royal Council marched up to CC Higher Secondary School Campus and witnessed traditional dances, Thang Ta and Ta Khousaba of four Panas.
Lalloi Hanjaba (Army General) Okram Manglem along with other officials of the Royal Council performed the religious ritual and told the King that the sign for the coming year shows prosperity in Manipur.
Later the King performed other rituals as observed since times immemorial.
Angom Ningthou, Khurai Lakpa and Ahhallup Lakpa were among other leaders of the four Panas, attended the ceremony.
Persons who performed Ta Khousaba were also honoured with simple gifts.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Pandit Loishang also performed the ritual challenging the open notice of Utra Shanglen who asked them not to perform the ritual without the king and the Lalloi Hanjaba citing religious reasons.
The notice which was given yesterday stated that the ritual must be performed by the Lalloi Hanjaba appointed by the King with his approval.
It also warned that the Utra Shanglen will seek legal action if the Pandit Loishang performed the rituals without the Lalloi Hanjaba and the approval of the King taking it to be an insult and a challenge to the Sanamahi religion.
