10 years RI for convict

Maibam Manojkumar, Session Judge Imphal West, sentenced 37 years old Lourembam Dhiren for kidnapping and raping a 15 year old girl in 1999, to 10 years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine ofRs 30,000 today.
Lourembam Dhiren (37) s/o Ibomcha of Taothong Lamkhai who was convicted by the Court on June 29, was produced from judicial custody remand at Sajiwa Central Jail for the sentence hearing today.
During the hearing, the Court heard the submission of A Nilachandra, APP for the State, and L Rebed, counsel of the convict.
The APP prayed to sentence the convict to life imprisonment for committing the offence while the defense counsel contended that the incident happened in the year 1999, about 19 years back, while the convict was at the prime of his youth.
Now he is settled with two children and in such a situation if the convict is sentenced to life imprisonment, his family members would be ruined and as such prayed for minimum punishment.
The Court went through all the materials on record and heard the submission of the APP and the defense counsel and sentenced the convict Lourembam Dhiren to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years and a fine of Rs 10,000 under 366 IPC.
