Imphal, July 31 2017:
A rally was taken out by locals against the alleged serial transfer of doctors posted at Maram PHC in Senapati district.
The protesters later submitted a, memorandum to the State Health Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati.
The rally was organised jointly by Maram Khullen Circle Board, Maram Khullen Circle Students and Youth Association and MKC Women Association.
The rally began from Don Bosco Higher Sec school, Maram and passed through Maram Centre along NH-39.It culminated at Maram PHC where a public meeting was held.
The demonstrators shouted slogans like 'Post , doctors at Maram,' 'we want justice,' etc.
Speaking to reporters, adviser of MKC Students and Youth Association, Alphonse said there is now just one doctor at Maram PHC, the health centre which CM N Biren announced to upgrade to CHC during his visit to the district recently to attend the Barak festival.
Out of the sanctioned strength of six doctors, five were positioned at the PHC until recently, he said.
While one doctor left the centre for further studies, three others were transferred recently leaving just one doctor, Alphonse said.
The PHC is catering to the medical need of about 42,7000 population apart from about 5000 students of Don Bosco College and Don Bosco Hr Sec school under its jurisdiction, he said.
"We are not protesting the transfer and posting policy of the Govt. But posting only one doctor against the sanctioned six doctors is not justifiable," Alphonse said.
Among the transferred doctors are two local resident MOs.
This clearly shows that the State Govt is not caring for the sentiments of the locals, he said, adding that these two local resident MOs were ensuring to make the PHC functional 24x7 .
Maram PHC also acts as a first aid centre for people of remote areas as well as during emergency along the National Highway, he said.
"Taking the urgency into consideration, we are organising the democratic and peaceful demonstration demanding the Govt to revoke the transfer order of Senior Resident MO Dr Ngouniba Peter and fill other vacant posts," Alphonse said.
Representatives of the three organisations later submitted a memorandum to the State Health Minister through DC Senapati.
