Road closure threatened

Imphal, July 31 2017:
18 local clubs have threatened to close down the Imphal-Yairipok road indefinitely from midnight of August 7 if the authority concerned fails to mend the dilapidated road stretch from Irilbung to Konung Mamang before August 7 .
Representatives of the clubs along with a team of media persons inspected the road stretch from Konung Mamang to Irilbung bridge today.
Many potholes have been found along the road stretch during the inspection.
Speaking to the reporters, a representative of the Clubs N Kumar, who is also the president of Naharol Sintha Kanglup said potholes galore along the Imphal-Yairipok road stretch from Konung Mamang to Irilbung bridge.
Representatives of 18 local clubs had held a two-day meeting to discuss the condition of the road stretch recently.
During the meeting, a body known as Imphal-yairipok Road United Clubs' Organisation was formed with Laishram Sanahal Meitei as its convener.
Kumar said that representatives of the clubs urged the authority concerned umpteen times to repair the road stretch.
However, the Govt turns a deaf ear to the pleas of the local clubs till date.
He further said that the road would be closed totally from midnight of August 7 if the Department concerned fails to mend the dilapidated road by August 7 .
The indifferent attitude of the authority concerned to the woes of the locals has compelled them to take this extreme step, he added.
