Imphal, October 20 2013:
BJP national spokesperson Nirmala Sitharam said the people of the North East region should take the forthcoming Lok Sabha poll seriously.
She said in the last five years nothing was done in the region by the government though the people voted for them.
Nirmala Sitharam said this today in a programme christened 'Public Lecture' under the theme, "Parliamentary Election of 2014--What it means for the North East India," at Tribal Research Institute, Imphal organised by The Centre for Social Studies, Manipur (CSSM) .
The national BJP leader said the North East people should ask their elected representatives the things they had done in the region in the past five years.
She added that the people should also ask their representatives about the plans they will do in the next five years.
Nirmala expressed her regret that nothing was done in the region.
"There are no industries, no proper railway lines and no well maintained airports," alleged the BJP leaders.
She also said that no remarkable development is seen in the region.
"If at all there are developmental works undertaken by the government the process is too slow," Nirmala also said.
She then lashed out at the Congress government of neglecting the people.
"This Congress government is ignoring the poor section of the society and the minorities," the BJP leader further said.
She also accused the Congress government of taking interest in corruption and communal politics.
Nirmala Sitharam then said the BJP government at the Cemtre had come out with many development plans and policies but due to the 2004 Lok Sabha poll defeat they could not be implemented.
Meanwhile, taking a dig at the Congress party, the BJP leader accused the former of protecting the criminals and law offenders.
Former union minister Th Chaoba, former Manipur cabinet minister Prof Gangmumei Kamei, former Manipur assembly speakers Dr S Dhananjoy and Dr Borobabu and many others attended the programme.
