Imphal, July 18 2011:
As a part of the World population day observation, District Health Mission Society, Imphal West today observed the Population Stabilisation Fortnight under the theme "small family, overall development" at the premises of Urban Health centre, Singjamei.
The function was graced by N Raghumani, Chairperson, IMC, Councillor of ward no.16, M Subhashchandra and CMO of Imphal West Dr.S Bimolakumari as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, N Raghumani said the main purpose of today's observation is to bring out ways and means as to how the population of the state could be placed at a certain level.
On this perspective the observation is worth encouraging.
He further went on to say that this sort of function should be organized in different parts of the state and make aware the people on the importance of controlling population and also make them understand that a small family is a happy family.
District Family Welfare Officer of Imphal West, Dr. Kh Usha said that with the pace in which the population of the country is increasing India will become the most populous country in the world by 2050.What is worth understanding at this point is that even if the population increases the land which we live is not going to increase.
We will be having so little to consume that our health will deteriorate.
So we should be very serious when it comes to population explosion.
The health of mothers at all cost should be kept healthy only then the child could be healthy.
The health of a child depends on the health of the mother, she said.
Chief Medical Officer, Imphal West, Dr.S Bimolakumari said that the current population of the world is 6 billion.
Out of this 3 billion is under the age of 25 years.
Again from this 3 billion 1 billion of the population are uneducated women of which 66% of them are from under developed countries.
