Imphal, October 12 2012:
A one-day political conference on Inner Line Permit System in Manipur organized by Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System was held at Youth Hostel, Khuman Lampak Main Stadium here today and adopted a number of resolutions unanimously.
Interestingly, Indian National Congress, Manipur State unit, which is the ruling party in the state, was among few political parties which failed to turn up thus giving enough room to other political parties and social organizations to raise question on the commitment of the Ibobi-led Congress government over the ILP issue.
After a serious deliberation on the issue, the day-long political conference adopted a number resolutions which include condemnation of the statement made by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on ILP; to exert pressure on state as well as the Central government for by the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System and other political parties of the state for implementation of ILP; to organize a rally cum public meeting on ILP and to urge all the National Political Parties by their respective state unit leaders for early implementation of ILP in the state.
The political parties in the Opposition which were absent from the conference included MSCP, NCP, NNP, CPIM, and LSS while the political parties which took part in the conference were CPI, BJP, MPP, Trinamool Congress, JDU, NPP and RJD.
Speaking on the occasion, Sapamcha Jadumani, Convener, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, said that the political conference was organized by the Committee with the main objective of instilling a sense of nationalism among the leaders of the state and make them think of ways and means to implement ILP in the state once again.
However, it is very unfortunate on the part of the Ibobi led Congress government not to send even a single delegate to take part in the political conference and share their opinions.
Pointing out that the State Assembly had passed a resolution for implementation of ILP in the state, Jadumani maintained that if the Ibobi led Congress government sidelines the opinions and decisions of the public and tries to step away from its earlier decision, then the Congress party should be regarded as a party which is against the wishes of the people and ban it altogether in the state.
He also threatened the state government with a 'June 18' like incident if the state government remains silent over the ILP issue.
Sapamcha Jadumani further warned that if the government does not implement ILP in the state by November 18, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System along with the public would enforce ILP from the next day.
From that day onwards, all non-Manipuris who have valid identity cards would be issued permits and the revenues obtained from issuing these permits would be handed over to the state government.
The programme was moderated by Khaidem Mani, Advocate of High Court.
