Palace takeover: SSSL to meet CM, High Power Committee on Nov 13

Imphal, November 10 2013: As a follow up to the previous two meetings held between Sana Konung Semgat Lup (SSSL) and the High Power Committee of State Government to bring about an amicable solution on palace takeover row, another round of talks between Sana Konung Semgat Lup and the High Power Committee would be held in presence of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi at his Secretariat at 1 pm on November 13 .

According to a reliable source, the third meeting scheduled on November 13 would be an ice-breaker to the stalemate between Sana Konung Semgat Lup and State Government on palace takeover.

In the previous two meetings, both sides have already placed their words.

The upcoming meeting would be very crucial.

Sana Konung Semgat Lup and the State Government led by Chief Minister are expected to bring some sort of agreement based on certain specific points.

MLA of Heingang AC N Biren and MLA of Thanga AC T Mangibabu would attend the meeting as members of the High Power Committee.

The leaders of Sana Konung Semgat Lup are also prepared to attend the meeting on November 13 .

It may be mentioned that the members of Sana Konung Semgat Lup had raised serious objection to the move for acquisition of Sana Konung by State Government citing various cultural and religious reasons.

The King, being the customary head, should perform important rituals of the State from his Palace.

The State Government should not deprive the King of his customary rights, they contended.

On the other hand, the State Government had clarified that the motive for acquisition of Sana Konung was to revive the past glories of the State and not to undermine the position of the titular King.

The development of the palace would be done in consultation with the Archaeology Department.

The upcoming meeting would surely help both parties to sort out the differences and bring an agreement taking into account the sentiment of the people, the source added.

Earlier, the State Cabinet had taken a resolution twice to acquire the Sana Konung for development into a historical monument.

However, the titular King Leishemba Sanajaoba backed by various civil society organizations of both hills and plains protested strongly against the decision.
