Cong seeks to keep out 7 MLAs from House

Congress MLAs today filed petitions in the High Court of Manipur to restrain 7 "defected" MLAs from entering Manipur Legislative Assembly premises for Rajya Shaba elections.
A single bench of the High Court with Justice Kh Nobin Singh will hear the miscellaneous petitions tomorrow.
The petitions were filed by MLA K Meghachandra against MLA Ngamthang Haokip of Saitu AC, MLA O Henry against MLA Ksh Biren of Lamlai AC, MLA K Govindas against MLA Paonam Brojen of Wangjing Tentha, MLA DD Thaisi against MLA Y Surchandra of Kakching AC, MLA Kh Joykisan against MLA Sanasam Bira of Kumbi AC, MLA O Surjakumar against MLA O Lukhoi of Wangoi AC and MLA K Ranjit against MLA Ginsuanhau of Singhat AC.
The petitions prayed that the seven MLAs, against whom disqualification cases have been filed, be restrained from entering the premises of the Manipur Legislative Assembly during the pendency of the present petition and disqualification case pending before the Speaker Tribunal.
It was also prayed that the Court issues a writ directing Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly to disqualify the seven MLAs under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India (Anti-defection law) .
Election for the State's lone Rajya Sabha seat is scheduled to be held on June 19 along with elections in some other States.
