Contact programme for talented students begins

A five-day contact programme for talented school students of Manipur has commenced today in the training hall of the Art and Culture building Palace Compound.
The programme is being jointly organised by the Manipur Science and Technol-ogy Council and NCSTC, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

Prof N Rajmuhon Singh of Chemistry Department MU and Prof Sh Dorendrajit Singh Physics Department MU attended as the chief guest, president and guest of honour of the function respectively.
While speaking as the chief guest during the opening function, Uttam Chand Lai-shram said that school students must not confine themselves in their class rooms or schools only.
They must step out and contribute in the present science research projects in different science institutes.
Prof Sh Dorendrajit Singh in his presidential speech lamented that there are very few students in Manipur who opt for science for their career.
Even the toppers are more interested in other fields than science.
There is a significant development in science today.
Students must take more interest in the field to mark a substantial contribution to the world as a whole.
Giving an insight to the programme, Prof Sh Dorendrajit Singh said that the contact programme has been organised to increase the students' interest in science.
Later, students visited the NIECIT (DOEACC) located at Akampat.
