Imphal, December 15 2011:
A Joint Meeting of the UNC, tribe presidents, regional presidents and frontal organisations with representatives of political parties held at Tahamzam in Senapati district today urged the negotiators of Indo-Naga Peace process to speed up for an early settlement of the vexed Indo-Naga issue.
The meeting was convened by the United Naga Council with a view to strengthen the people's movement for alternative arrangement, pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue, by securing the participation and ownership of every Naga, stated a press release of UNC today.
The meeting endorsed the Naga peace process and urged the negotiators for early settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
It also objected to the attempt to bifurcate Naga areas for upgradation or creation of Sadar Hills, Jiribam, Tongei Marin, Phungyar, Tengoupal and Kakching district.
The meeting also acknowledged and supported the initiative of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation for bringing peace and reconciliation among the Naga brethren.
It also endorsed the demand for an "Alternative Arrangement" outside the communal Government of Manipur pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
"The Government of India is urged to intervene immediately with an alternative "political and administrative" arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur, pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue" the press release stated.
While supporting the aspiration of the Nagas to live together under a single administrative roof the meeting also warned that any political party or individual(s), who either in speech, written statement, visual display or in action, oppose the demands of the Nagas will be taken as anti-Naga.
"The policies, programmes and activities of any political party which does not subscribe to the demands of the Nagas will not qualify for the support of the Naga people in any manner whatsoever" the press release added.
