Imphal, December 12 2010:
Seven of the DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT 2006 who are on fast since 10th December were arrested by a team of Singjamei police this morning as their health condition deteriorated.
Those who were arrested are O Basanta from Thoubal, vice president; E Joy from Tentha, spokesperson; Th Krishnamani and N Sanjit from Tejpur, auditor and secretary Imphal East respectively; N Sanatomba from Kongba; A Hongba from Langdum; Md Farooque Ahamed from Lilong Thoubal.
The DPC Successful Candidates began their fast unto death protesting the failure of the government to appoint the rightfully selected candidates.
It may be recalled that the result for the DPC successful candidate was not made public saying the same was lost.
It was after the publication of the list of DPC successful candidates by Hueiyen Lanpao that the successful candidates made demand for rightful appointment.
Official enquiry was done on the matter before it was forwarded to the law department.
In a press statement released today, the Association of the DPC Successful Candidates for Primary Teachers/HMT/HGT 2006 demanded that the education minister who is not able to bring a solution to the crisis should resign from the council of minister or the chief minister should remove him.
The association urges the government to not take the step to sacrifice lives lightly.
It further urges other civil society groups in Manipur for support.
