A MANIPURI drug peddler along with two persons have been nabbed by sleuths of the anti-narcotic cell of the Pune crime branch on Saturday, near Salisbury Park and seized 152 gm of pure heroin worth Rs 22.5 lakh from them, an agency report from Pune said today.
The nabbed persons were identified as Salam Singh (29) of Bhairobanala, an origin of Manipur, Asif Shaikh (23) of Marketyard and Mohsin Khan (22) of Maharshinagar.
Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team, led by inspector G V Nikam, laid a trap near Salisbury Park on Sunday and nabbed the suspects.
According to Nikam, "This is the first time taht pure heroin has been seized in the city.
Salam, who hails from Manipur, had brought it to the city a month ago.
He was in search of customers.
The cost of one gram of heroin is Rs 15,000 .
"Salam contacted Shaikh and Khan, who were interested in buying the heroin.
On Saturday, they met near Salisbury Park around 10.30 pm.
Constable Pradip Shinde got a tip-off about the transaction and we laid a trap.
When the three men approached the park, we nabbed them and recovered 152 gm of heroin from them.
We also seized three mobile handsets and a motorcycle," Nikam said.
During interrogation, Salam admitted that he had brought the heroin from Imphal in Manipur.
"He had come to Pune two years ago to study.
However, returned to Manipur without completing his course," Nikam said.
The suspects were produced before the court on Monday and remanded to police custody till December 10 .
