Ningthoujam Bala starts fasting as part of "Politics for the Poor" movement

Social worker, Ningthoujam Bala has today kicked off her one day fasting from 8 am onwards at Ekta Parishad's office here in Imphal as a part of the "Politics for the Poor" movement initiated by Gandhian Collective India in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
The 150th birth anniversary observation of Mahatma Gandhi has been kicked off from June 5, which is observed as World Environment Day, and will be concluded on October 2 .
N Bala is the 51st satyagrahi in India and 3rd from Manipur to join the day-long fast in solidarity of the Gandhian Collective India movement which demands to ensure farmers, labourers and villagers better means of livelihood and a safe environment.
CPI, Manipur State Council also extended support to the movement and N Bala, who has been reaching out to many villagers across the country and the State for years, said a statement of the State unit.
Gandhians, TD Ngangomba and Saikhom Khogen had also observed the day-long fast respectively on June 29 and July 7, it continued.
