UG suspect shot dead in shoot-out with AR

Imphal, November 24 2012:
Troops of 33 Assam Rifles gunned down a suspected UG during an encounter which took place at Thangal Lawai Mamang Pat under Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district in the wee hours today.
According to police report, the encounter occurred around 2.45 am near a shed for fishermen at Thanga Lawai Mamang Pat, which is located around 10 kms to the south-east of Moirang Police Station.
On receipt of specific information, the AR troop rushed in to conduct a search operation.
IN the ensuing exchange of firing one of the UG suspects was killed while the rest managed to escape.
The identity of the slain UG suspect is yet to be established.
One 9 mm pistol loaded with two live rounds and four/five empty cases have been recovered from the site of the encounter.
There were bullet marks on the lower jaw, back of the head, neck and right thigh of the deceased appeared to be around 25 years of age with cropped hair, lean body and wheatish complexion.
The deceased has ear rings and tattoos on his right arm and back of right palm.
The slain UG was found clad in yellow jersey, grey corduroy pant with no shoe on his feet.
The body has been picked up by personnel of Moirang Police Station and deposited it to the mortuary of RIMS for autopsy and identification.
Meanwhile, suspected armed UGs hurled and exploded a hand grenade at the residence of a retired college Principal at Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district on Saturday.
The incident happened just after midnight when suspected armed UGs attacked the residence of Waikhom Manglem, 65, a retired Lecturer of Manipur College.
The bomb, however, exploded outside the residential gate.
No one was hurt in the blast, though gate was partially damaged.
Manglem's wife, W Ruhuni Devi is also a retired Principal of Manipur College.
Family members told reporters that no UG group has served any monetary demand to the couple.
No one has also claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Protesting against the attack, large number of local residents of Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai staged a demonstration at the locality.
