Imphal, February 15 2013:
Countering the decision of the Senapati based physically challenged persons association called SDPAM for accusing the president of All Tribal Disables Association, Manipur (ATDUM) president Momo, two other bodies of physically challenged persons, namely Association of Persons with Disabilities, Senapati (APDS) and Tamenglong Disabled' Association (TDA) have warned the SDPAM from further hurling baseless allegations against Momo.
In two separate statements, APDS and TDA asserted that they fully endorse the 72-hour hill districts bandh being called by ATDUM starting from midnight of February 17 demanding from the state government to address the issues pertaining to the physically challenged persons.
The decision to call the bandh was not the personal decision of Momo or ATDUM alone, it was the decision taken during the general council convention of ATDUM, which was held on February 4 .
So, anyone oppositing the activities of ATDUM amounts to working against the interest of whole physically challenged persons in the State, the two bodies added.
On the other hand, Ukhrul District-Association of Person with Disabilities (UD-APWD) has unanimously resolved not to support the bandh being called by ATDUM since it does not have the mandate of the tribals and as it is operated by few handful self appointed vested persons.
Moreover, UD-APWD announced that it has disassociated with ATDUMdue to the latterscorrupt practices.
Therefore, through the media we would like to address to the Ukhrul district general public that the 72-hour bandh called by ATDUM will not be allowed in Ukhrul district.
Anyone who tries to disturb the peaceful atmosphere of Ukhrul district in support of the bandh called by ATDUM will be severely dealt with by the APWD Ukhrul District as per the law available, the UD-APWD warned.
