Imphal, May 04 2011:
The finding of many SSA textbooks for students of the state lying dampened in two office rooms of the Imphal East ZEO Zone 2 clearly shows the lack of interest on the state government's side in the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
Following the finding of four students' bodies, the textbooks found at the office of the ZEO was for academic session 2009-10.The ZEO is neglecting his duty by not submitting the remaining books of the last session to the concern authority.
There are high possibilities that the government officials sold such books to retailers, according to a reliable source.
Since the Board of Secondary Education Manipur is not supplying the require textbooks in time, government officials are distributing school bags as if it is more important than the books.
There are 324 government schools including aided schools in Imphal East district.
Out of these, 21 high schools, 15 junior high schools and 89 primary and lower primary schools are aided schools with a total of 125 schools.
Out of the remaining 239 government schools, there are three higher secondary schools, 23 high schools, 27 junior high schools and 186 primary schools.
Besides, 41 schools in the district have been abolished by the government.
Meanwhile, many students who were studying in private schools in the last session are thronging the government schools at the current session just to avail the benefits of free textbooks, admission, uniform, school bags and mid day meal.
On the other hand most of the parents of these students are not taking proper care of their children in their study.
