Imphal, June 03 2013:
Spelling out its stand over ATSUM imbroglio and clarifying over its silence on the bandh being imposed by the former, Naga Students' Union Chandel (NSCU) categorically stated that it would continue to stay away from any activities of ATSUM until it (ATSUM) becomes the students' mandated and consensus platform.
Speaking to media, SR Joningam, Caretaker of NSUC, observed that ATSUM should be a common platform of the Tribal Students' Community and not one man organization.
However, Joningam discouraged vested leaders who are trying to pave way for disunity among the Tribal students over the issue of ATSUM and made a fervent appeal to the senior student leaders of ANSAM, KSO and other district students' apex bodies and sympathizers to iron out their differences in the common interest of tribal student community.
Terming the factional leadership crisis prevailing within ATSUM a 'virus', Joningam went on to say that the word faction should not appear again in print media and it should be totally erase from public view.
He also clarified that NSUC did not endorse any individual on its behalf to take part in the meeting of the ATSUM's interim body and the Land and Resources of Tribal Rights meeting held on May 30 and June 1 respectively.
At the same time, the Caretaker of NSUC extended invitation to all to attend the 2nd NSUC foundation Day function to be held on June 4 at MACA hall, Panchai at 11:00 am.
