160 illegal migrants stopped from entering state

Imphal, September 02 2012:
Around 160 migrants who tried to enter Manipur without valid legal documents were prevented from entering in the past three days at the Foreigner Check Post at Jiribam.
The illegal migrants were trying to enter Manipur through NH 37 in passenger vehicles like Winger, Tata Sumo and buses, when a team led by OC Y Muhindro of the check post and CID (SB) OC Md Allauddin Khan came across them.
The illegal migrants were told to go back since they do not possess any valid documents for entering the state.
There were also minors among them.
According to OC, Jiribam Police Station, even Indians should have voter ID cards, residential certificates or other certificates issued by a competent authority to enter Manipur.
He informed that the police have conveyed to the Border Road Task Force (BRTF), which is constructing rail lines in Jiribam that the drive against illegal migrants will cover the workers engaged for construction of rail line as well.
Meanwhile, there are reports of many people living in Kasimpur, Sonapur, Ahmedabad, Binsiliu, Annapur, Lalpani and Barak Circle who do not know Manipuri.
Jiribam Police is conducting drives at rented houses in Jiribam Sub Division to check the occupants.
