Imphal, September 02 2012:
As there is no clarity on whether or not Japan International cooperation Agency would continue to extend financial support for sustaining the second phase of Manipur Sericulture Project, authorities of the Central Silk Board are reportedly seeking assistance from the Doner Ministry.
According to an official source, there is enough indication from the Doner Ministry to revive the project as the Ministry had already initiated relevant process to sanction necessary fund.
The Project was started and implemented under the aegis JICA in 1998 with the first phase supposed to be completed in 2006 .
As the first phase target could not be achieved within the specified period, the Project was extended upto 2008 through partial funding by the Government of Manipur in the form of budgetary allocation.
With the State Government continuing to provide the funding even though the annual allocation is considered to be meagre the Project has been surviving till date.
