Ngamthang instructs officials against cutting down of tress

Minister of Irrigation and Flood Control Ngamthang Haokip has given strict instructions to officials concerned for monitoring cutting down of trees in Singda Dam area.
The Minister inspected Singda Dam to stock of the prevailing condition in the surrounding areas today.
He was moved by the pitiable condition and rampant deforestation in the area and gave necessary instruction to the officials concerned to check encroachment in forest area and cutting down of trees.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the inspection, Minister Ngamthang Haokip pointed out that water level of Singda Dam has declined considerably.
At the present water level of the dam, it would not be able to provide water to the people for more than 25 days.
If there is no rainfall in huge quantity during the next couple of days, the state is going to face acute shortage of water.
He also informed that the people should be made aware of the impacts of deforestation in and around Singda Dam.
With indiscriminate felling down of trees in an around Singda Dam, the water available in the dam would automatically decrease.
During the inspection, Minister Ngamthang Haokip was accompanied by MLA Ksh Devendra and other top officials of the Forest Department and IFCD.
