FCI goods to be lifted more through NH 2 than NH 37

Imphal, May 30 2012:
Rice, sugar and other items, which are being transported to Manipur from the FCI godowns at Dimapur and at Jiribam in equal proportions, would now lift more from the Dimapur godown through NH 2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) .
According to an official source, the General Manager (Region) FCI, Regional Office (Nagaland and Manipur): Dimapur, Nagaland, has issued an order in connection with the Road Movement Programme for transporting the FCI goods from FCI godown at Dimapur and Jiribam to FCI godown in Sangaiprou and Ukhrul through FCI Transport contractors.
The source revealed that in accordance to the order issued by the General Manager (Region) yesterday, M/S WI Enterprises would transport 7500 mt of Rice, 2000 mt of wheat and 1500 mt of sugar from FSD Dimapur to FSD Sangaiprou; M/S MTOWA would transport 3000 mt of rice and 450 of wheat from FSD Jiribam to FSD Sangaiprou and M/S Zenith Enterprise would transport 1000 mt of rice from Dimapur FSD to Ukhrul FSD.
It has also been reported that during the month of March, M/S WI Enterprises transported 12000 mt of rice, 15550 mt of wheat and 2500 mt of sugar through NH 2.Along NH 37, M/S Zhimomi Traders transported 6000 mt of rice and 700 mt of wheat from FSD Jiribam to FSD Sangaiprou and the M/S MTOWA transported 4000 mt of rice, 700 mt of wheat and 700 mt of sugar from FSD Jiribam to FSD Sangaiprou.
The source further disclosed that in addition to apprehension over the huge difference in the transportation of goods from FSD Dimapur and FSD Jiribam to the FSD in Manipur, transporters are worried over possible forced tax collection along the NH 2 by underground outfits.
Meanwhile, Manipur Truck Owners' Welfare Association yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Minister of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution alleging malpractices against General Manager, Dimapur FCI.
