Imphal, May 29 2021:
Expressing concern over the increasing Covid-19 positivity and fatality rate in the state, Coordinating Body, Khurai has pointed out alleged flaws in the manner of handling the pandemic by the government.
In a release, Coordinating Body Khurai co-ordinator Saikhom Roshan asserted that the main reason behind the surge in Covid-19 positive cases in the state is lack of proper guidelines for the infected persons under home isolation.
With the number of people examined through RT-PCR procedure exceeding those on RAT as the former gives more accurate results, the same method enhances the chances of transmission of the virus because it usually takes 4/5 days to get the result.
Recalling that during the first wave, Covid patients were admitted to hospitals for treatment and also did not need attendants (family members) as doctors and nurses looked after the patients, Roshan stated that in the second wave, a family member or friend is made mandatory to look after the patient and as such it increases the risk of spreading the infectious virus.
In the second wave, the government is also prioritising on home isolation rather than institutional quarantining, Roshan noted, while adding that there is lack of proper guidelines for home isolation.
Thus, people take up measures according to their own will and bring the patients to the hospital at the eleventh hour.
Moreover, the mass gathering of people at Covid vaccination centres is also another reason for the spike of Covid positive cases in the state, he contended and pointed out that the rules for vaccination are not same from one place to another and the authority seems to be politicising on the vaccination drive.
Even though Covid vaccination for people in the age group of 18-44 years first needed to get registered before the inoculation, people in some places directly got the vaccine without even registering for the vaccination, he claimed.
Thus, in case such lapses in handling of the pandemic are not remedied by the government then the citizens are certain to face more undesirable consequences.
Therefore, the government needs to look into the matter including the delay in providing Covid test result, he said, while making it clear that the government should know that there are several people who do not know where to lodge complaint regarding their problems.
