Imphal, October 23 2014:
Demanding befitting action against Bhupendra Ghosh, president of All Manipur Petroleum Tanker Drivers' Union who reportedly thrashed an oil tanker driver over a spate at IOC oil depot at Chingmeirong on October 20, the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union (AMRTDMWU) has cautioned drivers of oil tankers stationed at Inter State Bus Terminus not to unload fuel at the oil depot till appropriate action is taken up against Bhupendra Ghosh.
Addressing a press meet at its office located at Thangal Bazar MG Avenue, H Kullamani, president of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union said that the assault on the driver identified as Niman Lama (31) over a petty issue by Bhpendra Ghosh was unfortunate.
He alleged that Niman Lama was beaten up by Ghosh using his license gun after the driver demanded challan to him to unload fuel at the oil depot and contended that the driver was assaulted by Ghosh in front of many tanker drivers who are the eye-witnesses of the incident.
Assaulting a driver by a person like Ghosh who is a representative of drivers is an indecent act, he added.
Questioning interference of Ghosh in collection of challan from oil tanker drivers, he demanded Imphal West Police to arrest Ghosh at the earliest and award befitting action according to law.
He reiterated that police case filed against Ghosh will not be taken back and cautioned tanker drivers not to go against the call of the union as untoward incident may arises thereof.
