Imphal, June 20 2021:
All Manipur United Club' Organisation (AMUCO) has alleged that some rationing agents are intentionally siphoning off huge quantity of rice from the entitled share of rice meant for poor people, especially the daily wagers.
In a statement, AMUCO assistant general secretary MM Thambou said that owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, many people, especially the daily wage earners are having a hard time procuring food.
As such, the government has been providing rice free of cost to alleviate some of their sufferings.
However, some scrupulous agents, in their greed, have been siphoning off from the entitled share of eligible beneficiaries in the name of distributing them to non-card holders, all the while pretending to be good-hearted and of fair mind.
Unfortunately, the non-card holders only receive a small quantity instead of the promised quantity.
If the people raise their voices against such acts, the agents misinformed the local MLA/min- isters, portraying the people to be against the MLA/minister, he added.
Meanwhile, AMUCO in collaboration with EKTA Parishad, Manipur distributed edibles to three villages in Thoubal District, namely Langathel (Chingkhong, Thingel and Moirang Leikai), Keirembikhok, Nongpok Lourembam and two villages in Kakching district, namely Wabagai Mairenbam Leikai and Laimanai Chinjil (Pallel) on Sunday.
The distribution team consisted of EKTA Parishad State co-ordinator A Rishikanta Sharma, Steering Committee chief N Bidyarani Devi and Imphal West District in-charge S Tania Chanu.
