123rd R-Day of Manipur Police celebrated

'Law and order will not improve, unless there is a cordial relation between the law enforcing agencies and the public.
Hence, the state police need to maintain amiable relation with the people' .
This was stated by Manipur Chief Minister O.Ibobi while speaking during the 123rd Raising day celebration of Manipur Police at the parade ground of 1st battalion Manipur Rifles here today.
Attending as Chief Guest of the celebration, O.Ibobi said people consider police as a disciplined and uniformed force.
The importance of the police must be understood by all police personnel, he emphasized, while adding that the public will respect the forces whether it is police, IRB, MR or VDF, when they perform their duties sincerely.
Maintaining that the duty of a government is to protect lives and properties of its people, the chief minister pointed out that people should made to feel comfortable and safe on seeing the police.
Without people's trust, Police will fail in its endeavour to solve any problem, he stressed.

Saying that the weapons issued to police are meant to encounter the anti-social elements and also for their self defense, the chief guest appealed to the police department to build up good relations with the people to improve the law and order situation.
Informing that Manipur registered highest number of tourists during the last few years, Ibobi asserted that the law and order has improved considerably in Manipur.
Outside companies are reluctant to work in Manipur if the law and order problem persist, cited the chief minister who maintained that improvement of law and order will result in the betterment of economic condition of the state.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who presided over the ceremony expressed desire for enhancement of the role of police in the state.
He told the gathering that the people of the state will be able to sleep at home, when the police perform their duties efficiently.
Emphasizing that there is no alternative to sacrifice and dedication, Gaikhangam who also holds the Home portfolio conceded that people will always remember the dedicated policemen.
While lauding the state police officers and personnel for their commendable service in controlling law and order in Ukhrul recently, he said the government is planning for a transfer policy which can utilize all personnel without discrimination.
During the Raising day ceremony, Director General of Police Sahid Ahmed informed the gathering that Manipur police which was established over a hundred years ago with only 1000 personnel has not got more than 30 thousand personnel.
The Manipur police could have arrested over 1000 insurgents and seized more than 500 weapons during the last year, Ahmed disclosed.
Over 3500 cases have been settled during the past one year, he added.
As part of the celebration, the chief minister presented DGP Commendation Certyificates to 31 police personnel including officers.
The chief minister also extended salute to 17 march past contingents of the civil police, IRB, MR, Traffic police.
VDF, women police, and Home guards at the ceremony.
Social welfare minister AK Mirabai, MLAs and high ranking police officials attended the programme.
