Zeliangrong Baudi flays racial attacks

The Zeliangrong Baudi (AM&N) strongly condemned the recent murder and attacks on Northeast students and youth in metro cities of India.
In a statement, the ZB (AM&N) said a young girl, Juliet hailing from Mizoram was killed by suspected mainland person in South Delhi on October 16.Three students from Manipur: T.Michael Lamjathang Haokip, Ngamkholen Haokip, and Rocky Kipgen were allegedly beaten blue and black in Bengaluru for not speaking the local language, Kannada and another two boys Awang Newmei, and Aloto Chishi from Nagaland were attacked brutally in Gurgaon, Haryana by a gang of locals during this month.
People from the Northeast who live in metro cities of the country repeatedly face abuse, sexual harassment and attack because people of Northeast have distinct looks and facial features, it said.
The Zeliangrong body urged the concerned authorities - Union Home Minister, Government of Delhi, Government of Karnataka, Government of Haryana, law enforcing agencies, and all the Chief Ministers of Northeast States to take up immediate actions and punish the guilty persons in a befitting manner so that such inhuman acts not to occur in the future.
It may be mentioned that when Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal Pradesh, was murdered in New Delhi in January 2014, it led to a huge public outcry.
After that incident nothing has changed on the ground.
The 11-member Bezbaruah Committee was formed after the death of Nido Tania.
According to Bezbaruah Committee report there are two lakh plus people from Northeast region migrated to Delhi, the capital of India from 2005 to 2013 and about 86% have faced some sort of "Racial Discrimination" in metro cities across the country.
This Committee had conducted a study into the problems faced by the people of Northeast and it recommended measures to reduce the problems faced by them.
Till date, no action has been taken on its recommendations.
