Amnesty International India (AII) members are here in Imphal and they are likely to meet hunger striker Irom Sharmila.
Noted human rights activist Babloo Loitangbam when contacted by NNN said that the Amnesty International members will try to meet Irom Sharmila and on December 17 they will address the media and then leave Imphal on December 18 .
Meanwhile, Amnesty International India has called Irom Sharmila as 'Prisoner of Conscience'.
According to Amnesty International India, Irom Chanu Sharmila has been on a prolonged hunger strike for the last 13 years demanding the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) .
"She is being held solely for her peaceful expression of her beliefs.
Her hunger strike is a protest against human rights violations, and is different from self-starvation as a way to commit suicide," the Amnesty International India stated.
