Consultative workshop on State Action plan On Climate Change

A one day district level consultative workshop for the draft Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change was held today at Manipur Press club where academia, private sector bodies, civil society groups, NGO's and students participated.
The workshop which was jointly organized by All Manipur NGO"s Forum and Rural Service Agency with the support from State Nodal dept.
for Climate Change Action Plan, Environment & Ecology Wing, GOM was graced by Dr..TBrajakumar Subject Expert, RO, Environment&Ecology Wing, R.K.Ranjan ,State convenor INTACH and State co-ordinator, IBCN, Chinglen, Asst.
Secretary All Manipur NGO's Forum and Th.Binod kumar AO, RUSA, Palace compound as presidium members.
The main objective of the workshop was to primarily invite valuable comments, views , suggestions and inputs to climate change issues prevailing in the state on some identified sectors, missions and thrust area for inclusion into the draft state action plan on climate change in Manipur.
The sectors include ecosystem, biodiversity and livelihood sustainability, water, agriculture, health, forest, energy, urban planning, research and development (R&D),human resource and development (HRD) .
Speaking on the occasion R.K Ranjan said that if we do not disturb the hills of the state and preserve it for about 20 years then certainly we will have a fairly enormous area of forest in the state.
This will in turn reduce all expenditures incurred on aforestation and trading in of woods.
We get our essential requirements air, water and food from the forest.
So it is our duty to protect and preserve forest.
He further went on to say that to control the unwanted climate change in the state restoration of community, village and individual ponds is a must.
Days back there were ponds in every house but now we can hardly find any ponds in one's house yard.
Apart from this we have been neglecting our indigenous plants and introducing a number of exotic plants.
There is also the need to strengthen the land use board of the state, he added.
The consultative workshop would be held in all the nine districts of the state.
