Imphal, July 11 2011:
Growth in population is a natural process and it could not be stopped by the mankind.
However, one can control the population growth rate, said Health Minister L Jayentakumar today in an observation function of the World Population Day held at Yumjao Lairembi Community Hall at Keishampat Keisham Leikai.
Department of Family Welfare organised the function under the theme "Small Family Overall Development" .
Minister Jayentakumar said that even though the world is talking about controlling the population growth, people in small states like Manipur are talking about increasing its population.
If people think of increasing population without actually thinking about their future and capacity, there will be many cases of social crimes and issues which will create imbalance in the society.
Richer persons can give birth to many children as they have the ability to nurture the careers of their children.
However the trend is adopted by poor persons who lived by earning their daily wages, they will only create disharmony and social crimes in the society.
Director Family Welfare Services L Joykumar said that the World Population Day was observed to commemorate the day on which the world knows the total population of the world has reached 5 billion which is July 11, 1987 .
India shares 17 percent of the total population of the world in which two third of the population are poor people.
Mission Director of State Health Society, N Ashokumar presided over the function.
Chairperson, Imphal Municipal Council N Raghumani and Manager of Songs and Drama Division G Jayantakumar also attended the function as guests of honour.
