Khuga Bn celebrates Van Mahotsav

Khuga Battalion, under the aegis of Churachandpur Sect Assam Rifles organised Project Vasundhara as part of Van Mahotsav week which is celebrated across India from July 1 to 7.The aim of Project Vasundhara was to inculcate awareness about 'Maintaining Ecological Balance' and take steps to encourage locals to plant trees.
Project Vasundhara was carried out at all the forward COBs, Thinghat and Khuga.
A total of 9,750 saplings were planted at all the locations.
The Battalion intends to plant 50,000 trees in this monsoon season.
'Project Vasundhara' started with a lecture on importance of trees in maintaining ecological balance for locals at all the COBs.
The lecture emphasized on how trees contribute towards checking soil erosion, maintaining temperature and prevent global warming.
A short film was screened at Khuga to spread the awareness, highlighting steps to be taken to achieve the goal of making the environment 'Clean and Green'.
The villagers took pledge towards safeguarding nature & displayed enthusiasm in planting saplings.
The conduct of event was marked by the presence of Kham Suang Mun, DFO and Dr D D Haokip, Addl Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Controller of Manipur.
The villagers appreciated the initiative taken by the Army and thanked the SF .
