AMSU's 12 hrs general strike against Sangakpham blast

The powerful student body, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has called a 12 hours general strike in the state in protest against the Sangakpham bazar blast which claimed five lives including two school going girls and injured seven others.
The general strike which will cover the entire state will begin from 6 am of August 3.AMSU president, Th Suresh announcing the general strike to the media termed yesterday's attack as an act of terrorism.
He also called upon the state government to take up measures to prevent such acts in the future.
The incident reflects the failure on the part of the Government agencies.
The involvement of security personnel in the attack cannot be ruled out also, Suresh added.
The general strike will not cover fire service, water supply, hospital related service, culture and religious functions the president told the media.
On the other hand, the MPP termed yesterday's scooter bomb attack at Sangakpham as a fallout of the total failure on the part of the state intelligence.
President Dr Nimaichand Luwang today visited JNIMS, RIMS and SHIJA hospitals and met the blast victims.
He also extended financial help to the victims.
Dr Nimaichand also expressed concern over the lapses on the part of the state government even though the government had experienced planting of bombs in three previous occasions.
In the meantime the Naga Peoples' Union Imphal (NPUI) Nagaram also strongly condemned the terror bomb blast at Sangakpham killing four innocent persons and a suspected NSCN-IM cadre, injuring many others.
An emergency meeting of the Union was held today with C Ngaraipam executive member NPUI in the chair and termed the incident as a
dastardly act.
The Secretary, Administration, NPUI Daniel Leivon also condemned the act and asked to punish the culprits in a befitting manner.
The Union urged the State Government to take immediate measurers to book the culprits.
