A one-day awareness cum training programme on 'Bio-Medical Waste Management and Handling' was held today at JN Hospital conference hall under the aegis of the Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
The inaugural function of the programme was graced by MPCB Chairman E Dwijamani, MLA Lokeshore, MLA E Suraj and JNIMS Director Dr Th Biren as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Lokeshore lauded the organisers for having roped in experts on the subject.
He stressed on the need to control pollution to the best level.
Observing that man is the principal agent of pollution, E Dwijamani asserted that man should accept the responsibility of controlling pollution.
Waste management should start from domestic level and every one should have awareness about bio-medical waste management, said Dwijamani while noting the need to organise more such awareness programmes.
Experts who participated in the training programme included Managing Director of Babina Diagnostic Centre Dr Th Dhabali, Microbiologist of JN Hospital Dr L Kokindro, Chief Managing Director of Shija Hospitals Dr Kh Palin and JNIMS Assistant Professor Dr Kh Lokeshwar.
Dr Dhabali presented a paper on 'Exposure to Biomedical Waste are Sources of Spreading Diseases', Dr Kokindro spoke on 'Implementation of Bio-medical Waste and Its Management in JN Hospital' and Dr Palin talked on 'Biomedical Waste Management�What we do at Shija Hospitals.
Dr Lokeshwar spoke on the topic 'Improper Management of Biomedical Waste, a Serious Risk to Human Health and Environment'.
