Imphal, August 30 2016:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur
(DESAM) in a statement has strongly condemned the death of
Tongbram Suresh as a result of torture and harassments by the
authorities of the school boarding where he was staying and their
silence over the issue.
Several such incidents have been happening in the last few
years due to unwarranted activities of the school and boarding
authorities and using education as a means of earning and
giving more importance to money than the students.
DESAM further asserted that each and every activity of the
school/boarding authority indicated that the boy was inhu-
manly tortured because of the inability of his parents to pay
his fees and DESAM has taken strong exception to this case
and will not remain as a mute spectator in giving justice to
the deceased and family.
The post mortem report should be made public and an
enquiry committee must be constituted and fitting punishment
must be given to those responsible for the death and the
parents should not compromise on any other terms other than
giving punishment to the perpetrators.
The State Government
should establish a regulation for the boardings/ hostels and the
parents sould be extremely cautious and vigilant of their chil-
dren staying in these institutions which are using the students
as a means of earning money, the statement added.
